On August 22,2023, the Department of Information Technology had a “Alumni Talk” for Final year students. A total of 65 students attended this session to get an idea about the placements in public sectors. Ms. V. K Supriya Banu, Assistant Manager, ICICI Bank, Mumbai, discussed the importance of   placements and provided guidance to students in preparing for upcoming placement opportunities. The primary goal was to empower students with essential resources, information, and effective strategies, enabling them to bolster their prospects of successfully attaining coveted placements.

Effective Research and Targeting:

The talk was about emphasizing the significance of researching prospective about companies and industries. The speaker discussed the benefits of tailoring application strategies based on specific company cultures and values.

Shared insights on identifying key skills and qualifications desired by employers.

Soft Skills Enhancement:

The speaker highlighted the importance of cultivating soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability.

Exploring avenues for enhancing emotional intelligence and problem-solving abilities. Provided guidance on leveraging real-life experiences to demonstrate the development of these skills.

By the talk, the students were Introduced with the concept of personal branding and its impact on placement success. Provided strategies for creating a compelling elevator pitch that succinctly conveys strengths and aspirations.

Discussed how personal branding extends to both online profiles and in-person interactions.

Overcoming Interview Anxiety:

The speaker addressed common interview anxiety and providing techniques for managing nerves. Shared relaxation and mindfulness strategies that can positively influence interview performance. Offered advice on projecting confidence while remaining authentic and approachable.

Negotiation Skills and Salary Expectations:

The speaker discussed the importance of researching industry salary standards and negotiation techniques. Suggested her insights into effectively communicating salary expectations without undermining the placement offer.

Public Sector Exams:

The speaker shared the ideas on cracking public sector exams and procedures to formally get placed in such sectors. Added her work experience in such sectors and their benefits.

An interactive Q&A segment provided students with the opportunity to seek elucidation and expert advice from the speaker regarding particular placement-related queries. The speaker answered some queries that were shot by the students based on exams in public sectors, work pressure handling.
